Another History uses a disparate collection of printed tone, colour, and texture on Japanese papers from previous work as the basis for compositional exploration. Although the information I am using constitutes a history of my print practice and visual study over time, the original context is gone. The new compositions are not a continuation of any of the previous collections, but treat the collected information as formal elements only. I am exploring a history of this information in time; wherein as primary meaning loses its importance, formal interest may remain, new choices may be made, and new meaning be construed. Another History connects the history of my methodology with my current thinking in a new collection of images.

Bocage
2005-2006

Bocage: Thicket. Representation of sylvan scene in ceramics.

Field of Meaning: Slips of meaning. Meaning can never be bounded. There is always a surplus of meaning. (Jacques Derrida)

Bocage continues my exploration of the detritus of printmaking begun in some of The Popular Nature Project and Another History. What new connections and divergent compositions may be made with the ‘proofs’ of previous work? This process driven and meditative work reflects also recent visual culture reading ranging from French philosophy to porcelain.
